Editor’s Note
The Africa Rice Center
(WARDA) pursues a noble cause—improving the lives of
millions of resource-poor rice farmers and consumers in
sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) through agricultural research.
Its heroes of research bring passion and commitment to
help fight poverty and hunger in the region.
It’s, therefore, all the more deplorable that the Center
had to experience the tragic events of November 2004 in
Côte d’Ivoire in addition to the series of shocks that
it has faced in the last few years.
This special issue is dedicated to the invincible spirit
of the Center that has made research breakthroughs such
as the New Rice for Africa (NERICA), an achievement that
has brought it worldwide accolades.
